SMPTE files include correspondence, drafts of papers for the Society and informational files on those topics, conference programs and reports, minutes of the Board of Governors, Standards Committee proposals and reports, meeting notices, annual reports, fellows applications, membership lists, by-laws, articles, and press releases (1962-88). CINE files contain awards programs, awards nominees information, correspondence, treasurer's and other reports, press releases, and a notebook on international film festivals (1965-79). UFVA materials consist of copies of the Journal and the in-house Digest (1957-84, 1990-91), and yearly files of correspondence, press releases, and reports (1977-84). ASFA files include correspondence, board minutes, its constitution, and Notes (1960-69, 1977-79). The Consortium of University Film Centers file consists of meetings minutes, correspondence, and copies of the Leader (1980-89). Knudsen's work at ISU is documented through correspondence, copyright policies, Media Resources Center catalogs and film title files, and AAFF correspondence and Steering Council files (1957-88). Also contained in his papers are biographical information (1979); printed materials such as Business Screen (1977-78); Educational Film Library Association festival programs (1960s), and assorted media catalogs; files on various university media resources; and materials concerning a National Science Foundation film project (1962-63).

Teacher, film producer, and media services administrator. Orlando Stephen "Steve" Knudsen was born May 24, 1910, in Lake Mills, Iowa. He received a B.A. in Speech and Education from the University of Northern Iowa in 1931, and an M.A. in Speech from the University of Iowa in 1938. After teaching science, math, English, social science, and speech at four Iowa high schools, Knudsen entered the Navy in 1942, serving later as project supervisor with the Navy's Training Film and Motion Picture Branch...
